Tour Details

Climbing Kilimanjaro using this route is known as the most scenic climbing route for Mount Kilimanjaro.  Here you follow a trail around the mountain as you enjoy various spectacular views, for instance, Barranco wall and Maasai Mara plains. Passing the Shira Plateau and the Lava Tower, you will also come close to various wildlife species and get to see how they behave in their natural habitat. We have a team of staff not only giving you company up the mountain, but also offering services and assistance in different ways. These include professional climbing guides, cooks and porters.

Your pulse rate will be checked daily for health safety purposes even as you go up. Oxygen saturation is also checked to ensure you don’t harm yourself at the expense of leisure. Once we have your booking confirmed, we will send you a comprehensive Packing List for the climb.

Mount Kilimanjaro National Park provides an amazingly diverse series of habitats as it rises from the pastures and bushlands of the native Maasai people to the boundary of the 1668 sq. kilometer (641 sq. miles) national park at an approximate altitude of 800 meters.

Here, melt-water streams from the summit nourish a lush belt of tropical forest where some of the healthiest elephant herds in the entire continent roam at will, matriarchs with their attendant daughters, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren, accompanied by enormous, lumbering tuskers over 50 years old, their heads dragged almost to the ground by massive ivory tusks. You may be lucky enough to spot the endangered Abbott’s duiker among a supporting cast of antelopes and primates.

It is relished and sought after by herds of zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, and elephant. The arid savannahs stretch away above an underground water table supplied by the glaciers on Mount Kilimanjaro which, at 5895 meters, is the highest mountain in Africa, and also the tallest free-standing mountain in the entire world. In 1995, J M Grimshaw from Oxford University, N J Cordeiro from Moshi, and C A Foley from Princeton University explored the Kilimanjaro wilderness and wrote a journal called “The mammals of Kilimanjaro” that documented a staggering presence of 154 mammal species.

Varied terrestrial fauna is present to be seen on your AfricanMecca game driving tour of the western sector of Kilimanjaro National Park, including warthogs, hippos, impalas, dik-diks, zebras, elephants, buffalos, and giraffes as well as less common elands and gazelles. Cheetahs, lions, and leopards are much in evidence as well as jackals, hyenas, monkeys, baboons, and mongooses. But the ecosystem is fragile and vulnerable to overgrazing.

Where to Stay While Climbing Kilimanjaro Tour

Shu’mata occupies a private concession within the Maasai homelands where no-one can venture except Shu’mata guests, ensuring absolute privacy for your Kilimanjaro safari tour, and undisturbed communion with the natural world, which can be met with on all sides, since animals roam freely through the grounds, although your safety is assured by watchful warrior guards.

Stay at Shumata after climbing Kilimanjaro

Designed to afford Hemingway-style comfort and self-indulgence, there are only 5 opulent permanent guest tents on stone foundations, which combine Colonial elegance with modern practicality, each having an ensuite bathroom where the enamel wash basin and ewer are symbolic of environmental responsibility exemplified by the use of solar power and careful attention to water conservation. Extensive private patios give vistas of the valley as do the central lounge, bar, and restaurant.

11 Day climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is also an option available at Oltumure

Accommodation At Kambi Ya Tembo During Climbing Kilimanjaro

Kambi Ya Tembo has 14 large and airy guest tents set far apart for privacy on a hillside overlooking the plains and mountains of Tanzania and Kenya. All the tented suites have king-size or twin beds, adequate furnishings, a dressing table, and storage space, with fresh, roomy en-suite bathroom areas with solar heated showers (read more on where else to stay in the west of Kilimanjaro National Park).

Each has a viewing patio with cane or safari chairs where looking towards east on a clear morning, you can watch the sunrise over the Amboseli plains and the Shining Mountain, as Kilimanjaro can be rendered in Swahili, or, facing back to Tanzania, enjoy the sunset over the volcanic ranges of the Great African Rift Valley.

Tour Plan

An Oltumure tour guide will pick you up and take you to your hotel as soon as you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport. By responding to some of your initial inquiries, this expert will assist you in settling in quickly and, at the at least, explain what "Hujambo" means. Settle down and be ready for the ascent the following morning. If you think you'd benefit from an extra day of relaxation, let us know so we can arrange it. We advise that you take some time to rest, as doing so boosts your likelihood of succeeding in your attempt to reach the top. Except for the first and last days, your hotel costs are covered. These two are left free so as to give you some liberty to explore and have a personal choice on where to be. The itineraries include bed and breakfast (@ $40 per person) on the basic package. In case, you would prefer more luxury, we can get you a more luxurious hotel still in Moshi.
In the morning, a guide that we will send will pick you up from your accommodation in Moshi. Your morning trip will come to an end at Machame Gate, where you'll begin your climb. Once registration is complete, we immediately depart for Machame Camp. The first day leads you through a lush woodland surrounded by the splendor of nature. As you advance, though, this will alter. As you get closer to the camp, the forest will start to resemble more heather. You'll arrive right at the Machame Camp in about 6 to 7 hours.
Today, there is a 360 meter reduction in the upward distance. To get to Picnic Rock, a semicircular cliff, we must first climb a difficult hill. You can see the Shira Plateau and Kibo, the mountain's peak, from this vantage point. Here will be where we eat lunch. We continue climbing after lunch, and it takes us 5 to 6 hours to reach Shira Camp.
You'll climb to the Lava Tower today by going east. It takes four hours to complete this. When you reach the Barranco Valley from Lava Tower, you will have descended back down for one to two hours. For your body to adjust, this activity is crucial. This valley, which can be found at the base of the Barranco Wall, contains the most picturesque camping around.
Currently, the difficulty is increasing. You eat breakfast and rise early, moving in the direction of the Barranco wall. The walk may need you to use your hands, so be prepared for that. Adventure seekers will adore the maneuver because it is the most exciting portion of the trip. You can see Mount Meru and Kibo from the top of Berranco Wall, among other magnificent sights. The next step is to hike around the peak before beginning the descent through Karanga Valley to reach Barafu Camp. The mountain peaks, Mawenzi and Kibo, will be easier to see from here. You will now simply have dinner and unwind before leaving for the mountain the next morning.
It will take you 6 to 8 hours to reach the mountain peak on this final ascent, which will begin at midnight. The fact that you have successfully reached Stella Point despite the trail's extreme incline is a wonderful thing. The next step is to gradually ascend to Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro's highest summit. Congratulations, you made it! As you watch the sun set from Africa's highest point, it's time to celebrate your win. The festivities are over. For the next six hours, we descend to Mweka Camp. A delectable supper will be your reward at this location.
At Mweka Gate, you complete your ascent for the day. After breakfast, the descent begins. Monkeys can often be seen jumping from tree to tree as you go through the Kilimanjaro Forest. You will arrive at Mweka Gate in two to three hours. The ascent has ended. You will be driven back to your hotel in Moshi by our driver.
In order to give you a chance to unwind after the strenuous journey up Kilimanjaro, we decided not to schedule anything for you today. Before your evening departure, you can spend some exploring in Moshi. Alternatively, you may decide to stay longer and go on a safari in Tanzania or to take a break on one of our stunning islands, like Zanzibar Island. If you're prepared to fly back home, our driver will transport you in safety to the airport. Safe travels, and Oltumure Tours and Safaris is waiting for you at any moment in the future.
