Tour Details

Popularly dubbed as ‘Coca Cola’ route, Marangu route is known to be the cheapest to reach the top of Kilimanjaro. It uses the same trail to climb up and come down and it offers hut accommodation where camping is NOT allowed. This route is also the shortest but very challenging in view of the fact that it gives climbers little time to adapt to the climate therefore we recommend you take an extra day to adjust so as to increase the chance of reaching the summit successfully

We have a professional team of guides, porters and cooks to assist during your climb. We also have highly qualified guides with a high safety record and best client success rate. The guides ensure your pulse rate and oxygen saturation are checked daily as a way of securing your safety.

Once your booking is confirmed, we send you a comprehensive Kilimanjaro Packing list. Check out all the routes here; climbing Kilimanjaro.

How fit do you need to be to climb Kilimanjaro via the Marangu Route?

Climbing Kilimanjaro is not easy owing to its altitude, rate of ascent, the different temperatures and the number of hours you have to walk a day. To achieve this, you have to be fit and healthy and to increase your chances of reaching the summit and ensure that you actually enjoy the trek, here is what you can do 1. Take your time 2. Do not hike too fast. This gives your body a chance to adapt and acclimatize 3. Be in good shape to make the climb easier 4. Go hiking a few months before the climb or prepare with some aerobics For altitude sickness we advise you take preventive measures by taking an extra day at Horombo hut to adjust probably day 3 or 4, which increases the chance of reaching the summit successfully. The price for an extra day is €260 per person. Contact us for any additional advice and suggestions on how to be fit for climbing Kilimanjaro.

Tour Plan

Today is the day you fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport, and our driver will then transport you to the hotel of your choosing. The purpose of the day is to settle down, unwind, and get accustomed to the Kilimanjaro environment and African climate. Your chances of reaching the peak are increased if you schedule an extra day to recover, refuel, and get ready for your trek the following day. The hotel is not included in this schedule on the first and last days since we want to allow you the opportunity to select your own lodging. See the illustration below. We will make hotel reservations for you in Moshi regardless of whether you prefer budget-friendly lodging ($40 per night included breakfast) or five-star luxury. Prices can be found on booking.com.
Gain in elevation: 870 meters/2,854 feet On the second day, your guide takes you up from your accommodation and drives you to Marangu gate, where your trekking begins. The trail starts at the base of the mountain and ascends to a tropical rain forest. Fortunately, you can see the uncommon black and white colobus monkeys while climbing at your own pace and taking in the forest and slopes until you reach Mandara Huts, which takes 4 to 5 hours. You can take trips to neighboring Maudi Crater while unwinding at the camp.
Gain in altitude: 10,20 m (3,346 ft) Today's ascent begins at Mandara Huts and continues through a forest with vegetation that may reach a height of 5 meters. Then, the trail opens up into moorland, where as you ascend higher, the amount of flora and fauna decreases, the air becomes thinner, and the oxygen content decreases. On a clear day, you may see Kibo, the highest peak of Kilimanjaro, as well as Mawenzi, the mountain's second peak, later. You reach Horombo Huts, likely in the afternoon after a 4 to 6 hour hike, where you can unwind and get ready for the following day.
Gain in elevation: 980 meters (3,215 feet). A pleasant morning where you trek up to the saddle of Kilimanjaro, which is the low point between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi. You continue on to the alpine region, where the flora becomes sparser, and walk for another 6 to 7 hours to reach Kibo Camp, which is at the base of the Kibo crater wall, where you will have lunch. Following that, you can unwind while getting ready for the following day's last ascent to the summit. Keep in mind to stay hydrated by getting enough water throughout the day and moving slowly.
Gain in elevation: 1195 m (3,920 ft) Loss of elevation: 2175 m/7,135 ft The hardest hiking challenge awaits you on this day, which begins at midnight when it is still dark, chilly, and there is a steep climb at Gilman's Point (the rim of the main crater). Take brief rests as you ascend until you reach Gilman's Point, where you may witness an incredible dawn over Mawenzi. From there, you must climb for two to three hours to reach Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro's highest point. Enjoy the wonderful view of a vast landscape covered with snowy white peaks as you take some time to reflect on your accomplishments at the summit. When you're finished at the summit, head down to Horombo Hut for your final night on the mountain. After surviving the challenges of the 14-hour day, relax with a good night's sleep.
Loss of elevation: 1890 m (6,200 ft) The sixth day is a day of descent to the Marangu gate via the tropical jungle. To reach the base of the mountain, where you may pick up your summit certificate, you must hike for 5 to 6 hours. After that, your driver picks you up and drives you to your accommodation in Moshi so you can eat and get some rest. The seventh day is reserved for leisure and repose.
This final day will be spent relaxing and exploring the area to have a better understanding of it. But this does not mean that your trip should finish. You can stay longer with us and indulge in luxury on the idyllic Zanzibar Island or one of the other far-flung beach locations, such as the Pemba and Mafia Islands. After the trek, if you decide to finish the journey and fly home, you reach your house on the ninth day.
